Purpose statement

The Trustee for the Beresford Cambridge Bequest Trust is a fund established to support research in to visual impairment. The Australian College of Optometry is committed to discovery and leading to the advancement of the preservation of sight, prevention of blindness and improvements in vision care and treatment through research. Research at the College is carried out through the National Vision Research Institute of Australia (NVRI), a division of the Australian College of Optometry. The NVRI leads basic, clinical and translational vision research programs at the Australian College of Optometry ? income from the Trustee for the Beresford Cambridge Bequest Trust is applied to support this research. The Trust Deed for the Fund requires that profits and property of the Fund must be applied soley towards low vision research. Any surpluses on winding up or dissolution of the ACO's research activities should be transferred to another institution having objectives similar to the objectives of the ACO in relation to Vision research and should not be distributed for any other purpose.
