Purpose statement

Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s vision is to be recognised as an outstanding orchestra, creating extraordinary musical experiences that resonate within and beyond our home state of Queensland. We feel we have a significant responsibility as the state’s Orchestra to be an Orchestra for Everyone. Over 1.8 million music lovers of all ages and geographic locations enjoy extraordinary musical experiences through our concerts, ensemble performances and through mentoring by our musicians in support of education and community initiatives. Each year around 200 concerts across Queensland deliver the gift of music via live performances and digital platforms making spines tingle. In 2018, 24 international and 48 Australian artists performed alongside Queensland Symphony Orchestra providing audiences with world-class musicianship and vibrant artistic musical experiences. From Jaws to Jurassic Park to Harry Potter and Star Wars, we share the magic of movie music with families and fantasy buffs giving Queenslanders the opportunity to try something new. These concerts transform the experience of a watching a movie, with a live orchestra enhancing the drama and action on screen. We mentor and celebrate young instrumentalists who dream of a career in music through our annual Young Instrumentalist Prize. We support and champion young composers by assisting students to develop a sense of self-identity and self-confidence through our Symphony for Tomorrow project. We support the needs and curriculum outcomes of schools, educators, students and wider communities through education concerts and programs such as Symphony Beat. We create once in a lifetime opportunities for students and community musicians to perform alongside Queensland Symphony Orchestra musicians through regional workshops and community concerts, as well as Sing with the Orchestra and A Day in the Orchestra programs. We redefine what is possible in the field of orchestral music by collaborating with local artists and performing alongside hip-hop artists, beatboxers and electronic artists through our ground-breaking WAVE concerts. We transport audiences to another world through our partnerships with Queensland Ballet and Opera Queensland, building the love of the arts as a whole. We can only continue to create extraordinary musical experiences for Queenslanders with the financial support of our donors, corporate partners, stakeholders and government funders. Because of their support, we are an Orchestra for Everyone. Play your part in creating extraordinary musical experiences by supporting Queensland Symphony Orchestra: www.qso.com.au/donate-now
