Purpose statement
Our Friends Group, with support from the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, carried out eight working bees in Buxton Reserve, to maintain the immediate Chapel environs and to plant and weed in the area of the reserve leading to the Chapel. For Stage 2 of the restoration of the Chapel, we engaged a heritage craftsman to rebuild the first two rows of seats, using Jarrah timber as for the original seating. Funding from the Federal Government Department of Veterans Affairs and private donations enabled completion of this work. The Interpretation sub-committee worked with a consultant to develop a proposal for interpretive signs in Buxton Reserve and at the Chapel, to provide information about the history and values of the chapel. The sub-committee prepared a grant application to submit to the Bendigo Bank for funding for these signs. We continued to inform our Members and Friends and the wider community by updating our website with progress of our project.
